This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Dental Board of California by adhering to content for CDPA mandated by regulation to include California Code of Regulations 1600 and shall instruct on acts in violation of the Dental Practice Act and other statutory mandates relating to the dental practice. The course includes information on the structure of the Dental Board, governing bodies, utilization and scope of practice for auxiliaries, scope of practice for dentists, laws governing the prescribing of drugs, citations, fines, revocations and suspensions, mandatory reporter status and license renewal.

This interactive educational experience is available to members and non-members, is approved by the Dental Board of California, and upon successful completion of the course is eligible for 2 (two) continuing education credits.

Clinical Teaching Methodology is a 2 hour course designed to fulfill requirements set forth in the California Dental Practice Act. All faculty members performing clinical evaluation are required to have completed 2 hours teaching methodology. This pertains to dental assisting courses for radiation safety, pit and fissure sealant, coronal polishing, infection control, orthodontic assistant, dental sedation assistant and registered dental assistant in extended function (RDAEF). You will learn basic teaching methodology concepts, techniques for evaluating clinical skills and criteria for selecting effective evaluation tools.

This interactive educational experience is available to members and non-members. Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate of completion will be awarded.

Course tuition is $49 for members and $199 for non-members.

A four (4) CE unit comprehensive bundle of both mandatory courses for licensees of California. The Infection Control course is designed to meet requirements of the Dental Board of California for instruction by adhering to the California Code of Regulations 1005 - Dental Board of California Infection Control Regulations. This Dental Board of California approved course meets the mandate for license renewal of all California dental license holders and is the infection control course required for license renewal for DDS, RDH and RDA. It does not meet the new 8 hour Infection Control education requirement for unlicensed dental assistants.

This highly interactive educational experience is available to member dentists, non-member dentists and ADHP staff, and serves as an excellent supplement to staff training. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive 2 (two) continuing education credits.

Welcome to the California Dental Association's online course on Infection Control for unlicensed dental assistants. This course is designed to provide the didactic background in preparation for the clinical portion of the course. This course is solely the 4 hours of didactic instruction as part of an 8 hour complete course in Infection Control. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be prepared to proceed with the preclinical and clinical portion with your course provider.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please DO NOT register for this course if you have not been directed to do so by an approved provider of " Infection Control for the Dental Assistant (8 Hours)". This MUST be taken in conjunction with an entire 8 hour course. You should be enrolled in such a course prior to taking this online class.

The goal of this course, in addition to meeting the specific course outcomes, is to increase dentists’ confidence to see babies and young children and inspire a commitment to decreasing the prevalence of dental caries in California children. Specifically, this course aims to encourage dental teams to use caries risk assessment, disease prevention and early interventions to reduce tooth decay among children ages birth to 5 years.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
1. Recognize how early childhood caries (ECC) affects children’s oral health and the need to see babies and young children.
2. Perform caries risk assessments (CRA) to individualize interventions and recall.
3. Implement the 6-Step Infant Oral Care Visit process in your practice.
4. Promote the use of early prevention and intervention techniques.
5. Implement motivational interviewing and goal setting.
6. Recognize the role of patient self-management in reducing caries.
7. Promote healthy daily family behaviors.
